Social Democrats pledge to establish "crisis commission" over Pisa slump
The Social Democrats have pledged to launch a crisis commission, looking at the terrible Pisa results, which the party said should be a "wake-up call".
"Swedish students have lost knowledge equivalent to a whole year of learning," Social Democrat leader Magdalena Andersson told TT. "If I am trusted to form a government, I want to appoint a national crisis commission as soon as possible. And I want to bring together the whole of Skolsverige [everyone in Sweden involved in schools]."
She said the commission would submit a report within six months of being appointed, making proposals for urgent action to be taken.
"I also want to bring together political Sweden, so I want a parliamentary reference group. This is important because school policy is managed both nationally by the government and also in the municipalities."
Swedish pupils have never before been as poor in mathematics, reading comprehension and science in any Pisa survey in 25 years, with one in three 15-year-olds in Sweden only able to read the most basic texts.

Singer for Sweden Democrat leader's band sells Nazi music: report
Marcus Öhrn, the singer who fronts Jimmie Åkesson's election campaign dansband Åkezzonz, sells anti-Semitic white power music through his record label "No Shame", the Dagens ETC newspaper has reported.
"This is a huge hypocrisy from a party that claims to have come to terms with its Nazi past," the Social Democrats' party secretary Tobias Baudin told TT.
Through the company, Öhrn sells Nazi music, both used CDs and new releases. Over the weekend, the company has, among other things, posted several titles on Tradera that, according to ETC, are so grossly hateful that they are prohibited from being sold on the international music site Discogs.
As well as fronting Åkezzonz, Öhrn played in a band with Åkesson, played at his wedding, and co-wrote the Fröken Snusk song Så länge mitt hjärta slär with the Sweden Democrat leader.
Öhrn’s record company also releases records with famous Swedish Nazi musicians and with lyrics by Per Engdahl, founder of the Nazi-linked New Sweden Movement in the 1930s.
Öhrn told ETC that he had accidentally acquired a box of white power records in a record exchange. “I am neither racist, fascist nor Nazi”, he wrote to the newspaper.

No fatal shootings in Gothenburg for a year
There have now been no fatal shootings in Gothenburg for a year, the Göteborgs-Posten newspaper has reported.
The last fatal shooting in the city took place on September 9th, 2025, when a man was shot to death on Hisingen. Since then, there have been two shootings, but neither resulted in death or injury.
"We had a negative trend where the development was constantly going in the wrong direction. Breaking it in the way that has happened now, I would say is unique," Hampus Nygårds, head of the police in Region Väst, told the newspaper.

Top Swedish investor slams Wallenberg's 'shameful' election scaremongering
The leading Swedish private equity investor Robert Weil has launched a counterattack on the Swedish billionaires who have come forward to warn of the threat of a left-wing government, accusing them of a "shameful" pandering to right-wing populists.
In an article in the Dagens Nyheter newspaper on Tuesday, Weil blasted his "colleagues in the business world" for warning of the dangers of a coming left-wing government while turning a blind eye to the risks of far-right nationalism.
"That representatives from the Confederation of Swedish Industry are engaging in such scaremongering is deeply irresponsible," he wrote. "That capital and populist nationalism are currently forming a united front is shameful and risks fundamentally damaging our democracy."
"How can you warn against a Centre Party and a Social Democratic party that are so clearly business and growth-oriented? Who want to establish long-term energy agreements and promote innovation so that Sweden will once again take the lead?" Weil asked.
Instead, he said, responsible business leaders should be warning against "the risks of an ethno-nationalist and authoritarian policy" where migration issues dominate at the expense of other priorities.
"Reining in right-wing nationalist forces is impossible, history has clearly shown that. They will dominate," he continued. "How can you see the possibility of a single, short-term tax hike as the big threat to society?"
