In the new poll by Novus for TV4, the opposition parties have a combined 50.3 percent of the vote, the pro-government Tidö parties have 47.7 percent, while 'other parties' are on 2 percent.
This shows the opposition's lead falling dramatically from 9.6 percent in Novus's June poll and is a disaster for the leading opposition party, the Social Democrats, who have seen the share of voters who say they will vote for them dropping by 4.3 percentage points from the last Novus poll at the start of the month.
The 3.3 percent support the Liberals received is the party's best result in a Novus poll since its leader Simona Mohamsson took over as party leader, bringing the party a step closer to the crucial four-percent parliamentary threshold.
"This bodes well for election day," Liberal leader Simona Mohamsson told journalists on Wednesday after the result. "I contacted my blue-and-yellow colleagues this morning and urged us to now focus on taking advantage of this momentum and giving it our all."
Tobias Baudin, party secretary for the Social Democrats said that the opposition party had expected its lead to shrink in the run-up to polling day.
"This election could be extremely, extremely close," he said at a press conference. "This should be a wake-up call for everyone in Sweden who doesn't want to have 12 Sweden Democrat ministers."
On the left, the Left Party and the Centre Party stand at 8.4 percent and 8.3 percent respectively, while the Green Party registered 7.8 percent.
Among the remaining parties in the centre-right Tidö coalition, the Moderates received 17.2 percent, the Christian Democrats 6.5 percent, and the Sweden Democrats 20.7 percent.
A total of 2,984 people were interviewed for the poll.
