The attack occurred on Friday in the central town of Fagersta, resulting in the death and two male students being seriously wounded.
The 18-year-old sword-wielding assailant was shot and arrested by police, who were working to establish a motive.
"The person killed in this incident is a young 17-year-old female. Her family has been informed," police said on their website.
