Tell us: Have you experienced discrimination when applying for jobs in Sweden?

A new study suggests that employers in industries with few employees with foreign backgrounds reject applicants with foreign names at a higher rate than typically Swedish names. We want to hear from readers of The Local about your experience of discrimination or bias when applying for jobs in Sweden.

The study sent out more than 7,000 fictional job applications for 15 different types of jobs, giving some applicants names from the former Yugoslavia or Arabic names from the Middle East, while the rest carried typical Swedish names. It found that in sectors where many foreign-born people already work, surnames did not affect response rates; however in other sectors employers were less likely to get back to someone with a foreign name.
