Sweden's right wing takes clear lead over left wing in new poll

Following strong gains for the Moderate Party and the Sweden Democrats, a new poll has the right-wing side nearly four percentage points higher than their left-wing rivals.

The survey, by Ipsos on behalf of the Dagens Nyheter (DN) newspaper, was carried out between October 13th and 25th, polling 1,589 eligible voters.

"It's a warning sign for the red-greens if a snap election were to be called," Ipsos analyst Nicklas Källebring told DN about the centre-left's lukewarm performance.

This marks the first time in the poll since October 2022 that the bloc supporting Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson holds an advantage over the parties backing Social Democrat leader Magdalena Andersson.

The Moderates and the Sweden Democrats are driving the right-wing surge, polling at approximately 24 and 19 percent respectively in rounded figures.

Rounding up the right wing are the Christian Democrats at 5 percent and the Liberals at 4 percent.

As for the left wing, the Social Democrats are polling at 27 percent, the Left Party at 8 percent and the Green Party and Centre Party at 6 percent, respectively.

A month and a half after the election, the centre-left, which holds a majority in parliament, still hasn't managed to form a government. The DN/Ipsos poll suggests that if no government is formed and a snap election has to be held, the centre-left parties may have more to lose.
