The Swedish Association of Professional Scientists, The Union for Professionals (SSR), and DIK, the union for workers in the culture, communication and creative sector have announced that they plan to launch sympathy strikes against King, the game company behind hits like Candy Crush Saga.
"If Sweden is to seriously compete for talent in a growing gaming and tech industry, employees need security, the right to good working conditions, and greater influence. That requires a collective agreement, regardless of how fast-growing the company is", said Heike Erkers, chair of Akademikerförbundet SSR, in a press release in English.
Engineers of Sweden and Unionen on Tuesday announced a strike against the gaming company, saying that the company did not want to sign a collective agreement.
"For Unionen, it is clear that companies operating in Sweden should have collective agreements. For a long time, we have held talks and negotiations with King to find a solution, but despite strong support among our members in the workplace, we have not managed to reach an agreement," Martin Wästfelt, Unionen's head of negotiations, said in a press release announcing the strike. "Therefore, we now see no other option than to give notice of industrial action."
Kajsa Sima Falck, chairwoman of the Unionen club at King, said that although her members "appreciate King as a workplace" they have a "strong belief" that "long-term security and real influence require a collective agreement".
"The commitment that the members have shown makes me proud, and it shows that they are prepared to fight for the right to be involved and influence their conditions," she said.
The strike will begin on September 25th if no solution is reached before then.
