It could be over 30C for several days in a row in Götaland, which is the southenmost of Sweden's three historical land divisions (the other two are Svealand and Norrland).
SMHI, Sweden's national weather agency, has issued an orange warning for high temperatures in parts of Blekinge, Kalmar and Kronoberg counties where it could be at least 33C for several days. The warning has been in effect since Thursday afternoon and extends until Monday evening.
An orange warning for temperatures above 33C is also in place for several parts of Blekinge and Kronoberg counties and also Skåne county from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening.
A yellow warning for high temperatures is also in place in large parts of Götaland from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening, from around Norrköping to northern and central Skåne. In that area, temperatures are expected to reach at least 30C for several days in a row.
"Drink water and take it easy. Keep an eye on the indoor temperature and find ways to cool yourself," SMHI writes on its website.
But the worst of the heat will disappear at the beginning of next week, according to Henrik Reimer, a meteorologist at SMHI.
"It is highly likely [that the heatwave will end after the weekend]," Reimer said. "Showers may also form this weekend that can dampen the heat in the warm humid air; showers may form in northern Svealand and in Norrland too," he continued.
According to Reimer, the heat in Götaland is connected to the heatwave in central and southern Europe, where in some places it has been over 40C.
"The warm air that has been over the continent has brought up warm air that has been [brought up] over Götaland," he said.
